What to Expect

Demolition week is the most high-energy phase of any remodel. At Callahan Construction, we believe that transparency is the key to a stress-free renovation. While the process is inherently loud and dusty, knowing the timeline helps you stay prepared and excited for the transformation ahead.

Pre-Demo Checklist: The Calm Before the Storm

Before our team arrives, a few simple steps will help the week go smoothly:

  • Clear the Space: Remove all items from cabinets, drawers, and countertops.

  • Set Up a Temporary Kitchen: Move your coffee maker, microwave, and essentials to a dining room or utility area.

  • Clear a Path: Ensure our crew has a direct, unobstructed route from the entry point to your kitchen.

The Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 1: Protection and Prep Precision starts with protection. We spend the first day securing the rest of your home. This includes installing dust barriers, laying down heavy-duty floor protection on walkways, and safely capping off water, gas, and electrical lines.

Days 2–3: The Major Removal This is the loudest part of the process. Our team will remove old appliances, tear out cabinetry, and strip away old countertops. If your remodel includes new flooring, we will also remove the existing material to ensure a perfectly level subfloor.

Days 4–5: Inspecting the “Bones” With the walls bare, we conduct a thorough inspection of your home’s infrastructure. We check for hidden leaks, outdated wiring, or structural issues that need addressing before the new kitchen goes in. By Friday, the site is cleared of debris and ready for the next phase.

Survival Tips for Homeowners

Noise Management: Days 2 and 3 involve heavy machinery and hammering. If you work from home, you may want to schedule meetings from a different location during these days.

Air Quality: While we use professional-grade dust barriers, we recommend changing your HVAC filter once the demo week is finalized to keep your air fresh.

Daily Communication: Your Callahan Construction lead will provide updates on progress and any discoveries made behind the walls.
